Box Score DODGE CITY, Kan. -- The Dodge City Community College women's soccer team kept on rolling as the Conquistadors won their fourth game in a row by cruising past short-handed Neosho County Community College 8-0 Wednesday afternoon at Memorial Stadium.
DC3 (6-3 overall, 4-1 KJCCC) scored five goals in the first half against a Panthers team that had just eight players suited up before tacking on three more goals in the second half -- though DC3 coach
Tim Romanello felt his team wasn't as focused as it could've been early on.
"It is so important that we get off to good and fast starts and I thought we lacked that for the first three to five minutes," Romanello said. "But the girls responded. They got after it and realized they were off to a slow start. This team responds really well. ... When you are that much of a favorite going into a game and you know it's probably going to be smooth sailing, and I can say that because they only had seven in the field, it's hard to have that killer instinct the whole time."
The Conqs finished with 39 shots (with 20 on goal) while the Panthers (0-9, 0-4) didn't get a shot off.
DC3 got a pair of goals from
Rachel VanBuskirk,
Cynthia Rodela had a goal and a pair of assists,
Emily Goldman had a goal and an assist,
Dominique Arzaga,
Ariana Dawson and Jaque Gonzalez each had a goal while
Kristina Trinceri added an assist. DC3 also score on an own goal by Neosho.
The Conqs travel to take on Coffeyville 4 p.m. Saturday.
NOTES: DC3 is now 13-7 all time against Neosho. ... With the win Romanello picked up his 39th win as the women's coach - passing Adam Hunter's total of 38 for the most in DC3 history. It was also Romanello's 25th KJCCC win as women's coach - also passing Hunter's total of 25 for the most in the program's history.
