After a season-opening offensive outburst for the Dodge City women's soccer team, the Conquistadors hit the road for one of their toughest tests in recent years, taking on #9 Trinity Valley in the Pit in Athens, Texas. 
 
The Conqs were up for the battle and claimed a gritty road victory in what proved to be a high scoring contest as the Conqs won 5-4. The win moves the Conqs to 2-0 on the season. 
 
Both teams held possession early, but it was Trinity Valley that looked like they would break through first as they appeared to score just over six minutes into the match, but the goal was erased by an offsides call. The action remained scoreless until the 17^th minute when Adrian Garica Caceres from 30-yards out hit a booming kick that sailed over the Trinity Valley goalkeeper, leading to a 1-0 Conqs lead. Less than three minutes later, Trinity Valley had an answer as they drew even, and despite a 1-1 contest just 20 minutes into the first half, neither team was able to add to their total before halftime. 
 
The matchup opened in a big way in the second half as seven goals were scored between both teams in the second 45 minutes. In the 61^st minute, Trinity Valley took their first lead of the matchup, but the Conqs were composed, and just five minutes later the ball fell to the feet of Maria Rincon Fernandez at the edge of the box to the left, and she fired off a shot for the goal and tied the match at 2-2. In the 73^rd minute, the Conqs made another push as Garcia Caceres played a beautiful ball forward, and Sarah Rollow raced it down for a one-on-one opportunity against the goalkeeper, and she gave the Conqs a 3-2 lead. The lead was short-lived again as Trinity Valley two minutes later were even again with their third goal. 
 
Garcia Caceres tallied her fifth goal of the season in the 80^th minute after Rinka Hayashi laid a solid pass across the top of the box for her to finish. Up 4-3, the Conqs added some insurance in the 84^th minute as they were awarded a penalty kick, and after initially seeing the penalty kick saved, they got another opportunity as the goalkeeper moved early in the first try. Victoria Tierce made the best of the second chance and cashed in on the penalty kick, giving the Conqs a 5-3 advantage. The penalty kick proved to be a big goal as Trinity Valley, with just three minutes left, scored again to make it a one goal game. The Conqs would play a man down for the final two minutes of the contest but were able to hold off Trinity Valley for the 5-4 victory. 
 
It was quality shots on the day for the Conqs, with eight of their 11 shots being shots on goal. Garcia Caceres, in two career matches for the Conqs, now has five goals with two in the win, while Rollow, Rincon Fernandez, and Tierce each recorded a goal. Laia Darnaculleta Rey recorded four saves in goal for the Conqs. 
 
The Conqs are at home for the first time this season on Tuesday, September 1^st, as they take on Mineral Area.
