Dodge City Community College since its inception in 1935 has field collegiate athletic programs and competed at the highest-level two-year college competition. DC3 currently competes in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) at a national level and competes in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference made up of 21 community colleges in the state of Kansas.Â
Â
DC3 adopted the Conquistadors moniker early in the inception of the college and currently has 14 athletic programs competing under the NJCAA umbrella, while a few programs compete in their respective sports national entities. The Conqs compete in the NJCAA in the following sports: baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s cross country, football, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s soccer, softball, men’s and women’s track and field, and volleyball. Coed sports of rodeo and spirit squad (cheer) also compete nationally representing the Conqs, while the band program is also a part of the athletic department. At one time the Conquistadors also had men’s and women’s tennis teams along with a wrestling program.Â
Â
Conquistador Athletics over the years has put together many phenomenal performances with teams and individuals etching themselves in the history books. DC3 has won four NJCAA national championships starting with men’s basketball in 1964, then women’s outdoor track and field in 1976, women’s cross country in 1978, and men’s cross country in 1998. The Conqs have also seen individuals claim 34 NJCAA national titles as an individual coming in men's golf, cross country, and track and field. The cheer program also has claimed a four National Cheer Association (NCA) titles winning the Advanced Small Coed Junior College division in 2021 and 2024, along with the Intermediate Small Coed Junior College division in 2023, 2024, and 2025.Â
Â
Success has come in many ways and levels of competition for the Conqs as Conq athletics have racked up 61Â region titles, 58Â KJCCC titles, and 12Â district titles with those numbers continuing to grow. Conq athletics has also had the honor of having 221Â NJCAA All-Americans over the years alongside with five former athletes/coaches elected to the NJCAA Hall of Fame.Â
Â
DC3 athletics looks to continue to strive for excellence and compete in the KJCCC, NJCAA, and other organizations.
