Dodge City women's soccer took the field for the first time at home this season and controlled the contest on their way to a 3-1 victory over Mineral Area.
The win moves the Conquistadors to 3-0 to start the season as they've scored 21 goals this season, matching or surpassing the total goals scored in each of the last five seasons.
The Conqs took early control and sprayed the goal like a confetti cannon but were unable to break through until the 27th minute, when
Layla Moreno Cantalejo took a pass from
Alejandra Arevalo Gutierrez, putting the Conqs in front 1-0. Despite a 19-1 shot differential in the first half, the Conqs led just 1-0 after the first 45 minutes of action. In the second half,, the opportunities continued to come, and in the 72
nd minute,
Sarah Rollow tallied her fifth goal of the season off a pass from
Rinka Hayashi. Just under six minutes later, Rollow found Hayashi for a goal, and the Conqs led 3-0. A late foul set up a free kick for Mineral Area, which they fired towards the far post in the 82
nd minute, but the Conqs went on to secure the 3-1 win.
The ladies controlled the contest, out shooting Mineral Area 39-3 in the matchup and had 12 corner kicks in the victory.
