Dodge City volleyball wrapped up non-conference play over the weekend with a 4-0 performance at the New Mexico Junior College Invitational in Hobbs, New Mexico, and a pair of Conquistadors earned all-tournament recognition.
Sophomores
Chelsea Durbridge and
Sunni Skipps each were named to the NMJC Invitational all-tournament team, and Durbridge was selected as co-MVP of the tournament. The Conqs earned straight-set wins over Vernon and North Platte, along with four-set wins over #9 New Mexico Military Institute and Polk State.
Durbridge had a stellar tournament at the setter position for the Conqs, amassing 137 assists over the four matches while adding five kills, 31 digs, three aces, and 11 block assists. To open the tournament, she tallied 40 assists, with two kills, eight digs, and three block assists in a three-set win over Vernon. She then capped day one of the tournament by helping the Conqs take down #9 NMMI, posting a double-double with 47 assists and 11 digs, plus a kill and six block assists. On day two of the tournament, she posted 32 assists, one kill, three aces, and eight digs in the win over Polk State and then had 18 assists, one kill, four digs, and two block assists against North Platte. During the tournament, she moved into fifth in school history in career assists.
Skipps continued to be a strong six-rotation presence for the Conqs on the floor as she made an impact in several ways during the tournament. She opened the tournament with seven kills, one ace, six digs, and a block assist against Vernon. She then had her best outing of the tournament in the win over #9 NMMI, recording a double-double with 17 kills and 10 digs, while adding an assist. On day two, Skipps tallied 10 kills with an ace, three digs, and a block assist against Polk State and then capped the tournament with five kills, three aces, seven digs, and three block assists versus North Platte.
The Conqs sit at 14-4 on the season and are 3-0 in KJCCC play entering a big week with three conference matchups starting with a road contest against #16 Barton in Great Bend on Monday, September 14
th. The Conqs will host Hutchinson on Wednesday, September 16
th, and then travel to Liberal to take on Seward County on Saturday, September 19
th.
