Dodge City volleyball remained unbeaten in Jayhawk Conference play with a road win over rival Garden City in three sets, 25-21, 25-19, 25-9.
The Conquistadors moved to 10-4 on the season and 3-0 in KJCCC action with the win. The victory is the third straight in the series against Garden City and the fifth in the last six meetings.
The night started with the Conqs working to an early 9-3 advantage in the first set, which grew to 12-5, but Garden City closed the gap a bit late in the set; however, the Conqs held off the Broncbusters for a 25-21 first set. Conqs in set two worked to an early advantage, going up 9-4, but Garden City closed the gap to one at 11-10. The lead expanded back out for the Conqs, and they once again kept Garden City down on their way to taking set two 25-19. Up 5-1 early in the third set, Garden City got on the board with some Conq miscues to draw within 7-5, but the Conqs outscored the Broncbusters 18-4 the rest of the way to win the third set 25-9 and take the match.
Conqs spread the contributions across the roster on the night.
Anete Celnova tallied nine kills, adding six digs, and four block assists, while
Kayla Cantrill finished with eight kills. Both
Sunni Skipps and
Dora Csanyi added six kills each, while
Chelsea Durbridge and
Isabel Lopez Usma each posted 14 and 13 assists.
Rian Muntaner had a strong night with 10 digs, three aces, and three assists.
The Conqs wrap up non-conference play at the New Mexico JC Invitational over the week as the season rolls along.
