Dodge City track and field competed one final time before nationals as several Conquistadors compete at the Shocker Open hosted by Wichita State University.
On the women's side of competition, the trio of
Kamilla Dombi,
Sarai Rodriguez, and
Karina Avalos Martinez finished third, fourth, and fifth place in the 800-meter run posting times of 2:28.63, 2:31.05, and 2:35.19, respectively.
In the 1500-meter run, three Conqs competed, led by
Denae Arellano with a time of 5:26.42, while
Karen Vargas Alvarez and
LeiAnn Maize each recorded a time of 5:47.97 and 5:54.73.
The sprint events saw
Tynisha Green,
Vanda Amler, and
Zyria Thompson all competed in the 100 and 200-meter dash races. Green, Amler, and Thompson posted a time of 12.88, 13.12, and 13.36 in the 100, while recording times of 27.29, 27.66, and 27.83 in the 200, respectively.
On the men's side of competition, a leap of 2.01 meters (6'07.25") earned
Deven Bolton a fourth-place finish in the high jump. While also in the field events,
James Littlewood placed fifth in the discus behind a throw of 42.11 meters (138'02") and recorded a throw of 44.53 meters in the hammer throw. In the long jump, the trio of
Brier Thompson,
Iranzi Revis, and
J'Daryion Dickson posted marks of 6.06, 6.05, and 5.53 meters.
Thompson nearly qualified for nationals in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.04, while also racing in the 110-meter hurdles (16.53). In the 800-meter run,
Rafael Zaballa del Hoyo and
Anthony Godfrey raced to times of 1:58.76 and 2:04.46, while Godfrey also raced in the 1500-meter run (4:35.15). Both
Josue Vega and
Eddie Salinas Millan also raced in the 1500-meter run, recording times of 4:12.46 and 4:28.17.
The Conqs will finish out the outdoor season competing at the NJCAA Division I Outdoor National Championships in Hobbs, New Mexico, on May 14th-16th.
