The outdoor track and field season continued for Dodge City, and the Conquistadors were led by a national qualifying performance at the Alex Francis Classic hosted by Fort Hays State University.
Deven Bolton, behind a career-best leap of 2.08 meters (6'10") won the high jump and in the process qualified for the NJCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in May.
The men's 4x100-meter relay posted a time of 41.67 with the quartet of
Careion Franklin,
Brier Thompson,
Coray Stafford, and
J'Daryion Dickson finishing third and was just 0.53 seconds off the national qualifying time.
James Littlewood also had a career day, recording career-best marks in the hammer and discus. A throw of 48.34 meters (158'07") earned him fourth place in the hammer, while a toss of 45.34 meters (149'00") was good for a sixth-place finish for Littlewood in the discus.
Also, on the men's side of competition,
Josue Vega placed second in the 5000-meter run with a time of 15:51.71.
In the women's side of the competition,
Denae Arellano raced to a time of 20:39.38 in the 5000-meter run to place fourth.
Olivia Leatherman finished fifth in the 100-meter hurdles, posting a time of 14.68, which was just 0.07 off the national qualifying time.
Conqs will travel to Arkansas City on April 30th-May 2nd for to compete at the NJCAA Region 6 Outdoor Championships hosted by Cowley College to continue the outdoor season.
