Baseball Drops Midweek Contest Against McCook

Box Score Dodge City baseball dropped a midweek nine-inning tilt against McCook, falling at home 7-1. The loss drops the Conquistadors to 11-13 on the season.

McCook opened the day with a leadoff walk, but the Conqs worked around it in the first inning as starting pitcher Lane French initiated a double play to get out of the frame. In the bottom of the first, the Conqs got a pair of singles and a walk to load the bases, but were unable to score. The second inning saw McCook grab the lead with a three-run home run, while the Conqs stranded a runner in scoring position in the second and third. The fourth McCook tagged the Conqs for four runs by batting around and taking advantage of two walks and a hit batter as they recorded three hits in the inning. In the sixth, Ben Longoria had a double and scored on an RBI double from Will Soto, making it 7-1. While the Conqs kept McCook off the scoreboard the rest of the way, they were unable to score despite getting a few base runners as the Conqs fell 7-1.

In the loss, the Conqs had nine hits led by Longoria as he was 3-4 with a run scored and a double. Soto was 2-4, while Jonah Andrade also went 2-4. Nic Cipolla added a double.

On the mound, the Conqs had five pitchers see action, with Dariel Luna and Aydin Ruiz both having strong outings. Luna went 1.2 scoreless innings, giving no hits and just one walk, while striking out three. Ruiz tossed the final 2.2 innings without giving up a run, not giving up a hit, and just two walks, while striking out four.

The Conqs return to conference play later this week, taking on Butler starting on Thursday, March 19th, in El Dorado, and then at home on Saturday, March 21st.
