The indoor track and field season rolled along as the Dodge City track and field team made its annual trip to Kearney to compete at the Charlie Foster Classic, where several Conquistadors delivered strong performances, continuing to improve their times and marks.
Four event wins led the way for the Conqs at the event as competitors from Garden City, Cloud County, Hastings College, Fort Hays State, and the University of Nebraska-Kearney all competed with the Conqs on the day.
Coray Stafford sprinted his way to the win in the 200-meter dash, posting a time of 23.03, and finished second in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.86 in the finals and 6.81 in the prelims of the race.
Careion Franklin joined Stafford with a first-place finish on the day as he posted a time of 52.80 to win the 400-meter dash.
Also, on the track,
Daniela Cerda grabbed a first-place finish as she posted a time of 11:42.21 to win the 3000-meter run.
Denae Arellano and LieAnn Maize followed their teammate, recording finishes of second and third, respectively, with times of 11:46.55 and 12:29.52.
Sophia Calistro etched her name in the school record book at the first indoor meet, and in the second meet of the season, she bettered her school record mark in the long jump. With a leap of 17'08" (5.38m), she earned a first-place finish at the Charlie Foster Classic. She also competed in the high jump (1.48m), 800-meter run (2:57.11), and 60-meter hurdles (11.12).
Five more top-three finishes on the day for the Conqs, including
Josue Vega, who took second in the 3000-meter run with a time of 9:13.75.
James Bradley took third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.48, while
Brier Thompson placed third in the 200-meter dash, posting a time of 23.15, and competed in the shot put (8.83m) and pole vault.
Deven Bolton, with a leap of 6'04.75" (1.94m), took third in the high jump, while also competing in the triple jump (12.78m) and long jump (6.03m).
Olivia Leatherman finished third in the long jump behind a leap of 17'04.25" (5.29m). She also competed in the 60-meter hurdles (17.74) and shot put (8.82m).
It's a quick turnaround for the Conqs as they will continue the indoor season on February 6th-7th at the Frank Sevigne Invite in Lincoln, Nebraska, hosted by the University of Nebraska.
