After getting off to a strong start to the cross country season, the Dodge City CC Conquistadors traveled to Tulsa, Oklahoma to continue their season and once again ran under the lights as they competed at the Rogers State Distance After Dark.
The Conq men would finish seventh as a team, with several individuals taking strong strides forward with their performances.
Josue Vega paced the Conqs, recording a time of 20:27.83 over one minute faster than his time for the season-opening race in Hutchinson. He would keep pace with the lead pack of runners and finish third overall out of 120 runners who competed, finishing just one second behind second place. The field of runners was primarily composed of NCAA Division II runners, with two other NJCAA schools competing alongside the Conqs.
Rafael Zaballa del Hoyo recorded the second-best finish on the night for the Conqs, finishing 41st with a time of 21:49.48, while
Oscar Leal Jr. had a solid performance, posting a time of 22:06.36 to place 51st.
Finishing 69th,
Eddie Carmona Ortiz (22:42.50) and
Juan Badillo (22:49.57), who finished 74th, finished out the team scoring for the Conqs.
Eddie Salinas Millan and
Elijah Kisner posted times of 23:10.98 and 23:21.89 to finish 79th and 84th, respectively.
Jose Chavez Ramirez placed 90th (23:44.30),
Juan Gomez-Lira finished 93rd (24:00.94), and
Dash Garton took home 101st place (25:20.09).
It's another quick turnaround for the Conqs as they compete in Newton, Kansas, on Saturday, September 13th, at the Muthama-Rogers Invite hosted by Bethel College to continue the season.
