Dodge City men's cross country team competed at the NJCAA Region 6 Championship in Colby, Kansas, and recorded a seventh-place team finish overall.
Conquistadors would also finish sixth in the NJCAA Division I side of the competition and fifth in the KJCCC West as a team.
Leading the charge for the Conqs was
Josue Vega, who has paced the Conqs throughout the season, recording a time of 25:07.62 to place 11th out of nearly 100 runners. His performance earned him All-Region and All-KJCCC honors.
Rafael Zaballa del Hoyo recorded the second fastest time on the day for the Conqs, racing to a time of 27:34.03 to place 38th. Three more Conqs were in the Top 50 as
Eddie Carmona Ortiz took 43rd with a time of 28:00.96, while
Juan Gomez-Lira and
Eddie Salinas Millan placed 48th and 49th with times of 28:25.29 and 28:26.09.
Jose Chavez Ramirez placed 57th behind a time of 28:55.51, while
Dash Garton raced to 69th place with a time of 30:30.88.
Juan Badillo finished 72nd (30:48.33), while
Elijah Kisner and
Oscar Leal Jr. capped the Conq performances, placing 83rd (31:57.46) and 85th (32:26.16). Chavez Ramirez posted his best time of his career in 8K race.
The Conqs will look for one final strong performance to cap the season as they will race on Saturday, November 8th, at the NJCAA DI National Championships in Fort Dodge, Iowa.
