Women's Cross Country Finishes Fifth at Terry Masterson Twilight Classic

Off running the Dodge City women's cross country team opened the 2025 season, competing at the annual Terry Masterson Twilight Classic in Hutchinson, Kansas, as they ran under the lights at Fun Valley Sports Complex. 

The Conquistadors notched a fifth-place team finish and were the third-highest finishing NJCAA team at the meet. 

Leading the charge for the Conqs was Denae Arellano, who posted a time of 19:37.47 in her first college race and earned a 10th-place finish. Joining her in the Top 20 was Daniela Cerda, who is the lone returning sophomore for the Conqs. Cerda grabbed a 19th-place finish, posting a time of 20:36.36.

A trio of Conqs finished in a pack to complete the team scoring, with Kristina Bates, Sarai Rodriguez, and Jennifer Lamas placing 30th, 31st, and 33rd, respectively, in times of 21:35.14, 21:38.12, and 21:59.27.

Four more Conqs competed on the night, as the Conqs have a deep roster. Rofina Pablo raced to a 39th-place finish (22:19.98), while Karina Avalos Martinez finished 41st (22:29.68). Leiann Maize recorded a time of 22:59.63 to finish 46th, and Karen Vargas Alvarez posted a time of 23:29.72 to place 50th. 

Up next, the Conqs will run a night race again as they travel to Tulsa, Oklahoma, to compete at the Rogers State Distance After Dark race on September 4th.
