Dodge City women's cross country team competed at the NJCAA Region 6 Championship in Colby, Kansas, and recorded a sixth-place team finish overall.
Conquistadors would also finish fifth in the NJCAA Division I side of the competition and fourth in the KJCCC West as a team.
Leading the way for the Conqs was lone second-year runner,
Daniela Cerda, who posted a time of 19:43.20 to place 14th out of 60+ runners. Her performance earned her All-Region honors.
Denae Arellano had another strong performance as she placed 16th with a time of 19:56.97.
Sarai Rodriguez, with a time of 20:39.88, finished 24th overall, as she recorded her best 5K of her career.
Four more Conqs finished in the Top 40, including
Rofina Pablo, who placed 33rd (21:23.92),
Jennifer Lamas, who finished 35th (21:41.26),
LeiAnn Maize, who claimed 38th place (22:16.22), and
Karen Vargas Alvarez, who tallied a 39th place (22:23.90) finish. Pablo, Maize, and Vargas all posted their best time in a 5K race in their career.
Kristina Bates and
Karina Avalos Martinez finished out the Conq performances as they placed 44th (22:47.38) and 48th (23:10.39).
The Conqs will look for one final strong performance to cap the season as they will race on Saturday, November 8th, at the NJCAA DI National Championships in Fort Dodge, Iowa.
