The Dodge City track and field team just west to Garden City to open the outdoor season looking to set the tone for the outdoor season.
Leading the way for the Conqs was the performance of
Tory Gethers who behind a throw of 54.20 meters (177.8 feet) qualified for NJCAA Division I Outdoor Nationals in the javelin. He surpassed the qualifying mark by over two meters.
Dante Reid had a strong start to the outdoor season as he posted a throw of 49.47 meters in the hammer throw just missing national qualifying by one centimeter. His mark broke the school record by five meters in the event. He also won the shot put with a throw of 13.73 meters competing against 11 other throwers.
Matthew Garcia had the best showing in the discus for the Conqs with a throw of 41.20 meters taking second out of 12 throwers. Also, in the field events
Brenden Carter posted a leap of 7.17 meters in the long jump which was just .10 meters off the national qualifying mark.
On the track the Conqs put together some solid performances but aided by the wind the Conqs times were unable to be used for national qualifying.
Kasey Kopetic posted a time of 14.16 in the 110-meter hurdles which is the wind aided school record, while
Albert House posted a time of 14.52 in the same event. House also finished first out of 16 runners in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.32.
On the women's side of the competition,
Olivia Leatherman posted a time of 14.71 in the 100-meter hurdles, while
Bianca Gleim ran a time of 58.94 in the 400-meter dash, and
Sarai Chavez finished with a time of 2:26.97 in the 800-meter run.
Sophia Calistro and
Camdyn Cunningham opened the outdoor season in the high jump with a leap of 1.42 meters each.
The outdoor season continues for the Conqs on Friday, April 4th when they are set to compete at the Midwest Classic hosted by Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas.
