Track & Field Competes at Shocker Open

Dodge City track and field competed against some strong competition ahead of NJCAA Nationals at the Shocker Open, and for some Conquistadors, it was the last meet of the season and their Conq career as they are set to move on as sophomores. 
 
The Conqs traveled to Wichita to compete in the Shocker Open hosted by Wichita State University and had some solid performances. 
 
A time of 57.52 by Bianca Gleim earned her a first-place finish in the 400-meter run, while on the men's side of the competition, Alex Teffu earned a first-place finish in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:00.64. Josue Vega took fourth place in the 1500-meter run, posting a time of 4:09.75. 
 
On the track, both Sarai Chavez and Daniela Cerda finished third in the 800-meter and 1500-meter runs behind times of 2:21.80 and 5:16.16.
 
In the field events, Brenden Carter was solid in the high jump, finishing with a leap of 2.03 meters (6'08") to take second place in the event. 
 
In the throws, both Matthew Garcia and Dante Reid finished the meet strong, taking third and fourth place, respectively, in the shot put. Garcia recorded a throw of 14.14 meters (46'04.75") and Reid posted a throw of 13.72 meters (45'00.25"). 
 
The outdoor track and field season will wrap up for the Conqs at the NJCAA Outdoor National Championship in Hutchinson on May 15th-17th at Hutchinson Community College, as several Conqs will compete.
