After achieving the highest ranking in school history last week, it only took one week to change that as the Dodge City women's basketball team has moved up to #1 in the latest NJCAA Division I ranking.
The ranking marks the 44th poll out of the last 43 that the Conquistadors have been featured in, with the last 14 being ranked in the Top 10.
The ladies improved to 5-0 on the season last week with three non-conference wins, each by over 40 points, beating North Platte, Trinidad State, and Laramie County.
Offensively, the Conqs are putting up 87.4 points per game on 47.6% shooting with balanced scoring as three players are averaging double figures, while 10 players average over four points per game. Conqs lead the NJCAA in made three-pointers with 83 on the season (12 more than the second most – from a team that has played seven games) while leading the nation in made three-pointers per game (16.6) and three-pointers attempted per game (40). The ladies share the ball well, averaging 25.6 assists per game, which also leads the NJCAA. Conqs rank in the Top 10 in the nation also in three-point field goal percentage (41.5%), ranking third, and rank eighth in points per game.
On defense, the Conqs are holding teams to 47.4 points per game, which ranks 11
th in the NJCAA, while opponents are shooting just 31% from the floor and 22.9% from three-point range. Conqs are forcing 22.6 turnovers per game by their opponents.
Attention now turns to conference play for the Conqs as they open Jayhawk Conference action on Wednesday, November 19th at 5:30 pm on the road against Barton. Conqs will be at home on Saturday, November 22nd, as they will take on Cowley at 1:00pm to cap the week.
