Dodge City women's basketball team tamed the Tigers of Cowley to remain unbeaten on the season, picking up the 74-60 victory in the KJCCC home opener.
The Conquistadors, with the win, improved to 7-0 on the season and 2-0 in KJCCC, while making it eight wins in the last nine meetings against Cowley. The Conqs' 7-0 start to the season is the best start to the season under head coach

The day started slowly as both teams held leads over the first four minutes of action, and the Conqs trailed 5-4 before going on an 8-0 run to lead 12-5 with just over four minutes left in the first quarter. Cowley tightened the game back up at 15-12, but the Conqs finished the first quarter on a 6-0 run over the final 1:40 to lead 21-12. A
Charlie Melksham three-pointer shortly into the second quarter pushed the lead to double figures for the Conqs at 24-14. The Conqs headed into halftime leading 39-28 in the second half, the scoring would primarily come inside the paint for the Conqs, as they would continually hold off the advances of Cowley as the game was a one-point contest at 47-46 with 2:20 left in the third quarter, but an 8-0 run gave the Conqs control again. The Conqs despite not hitting a three-pointer in the second half, outscored Cowley 19-11 in the fourth quarter to secure the win behind 46 points in the paint.
On the day, the Conqs shot 48.3% from the floor, with most of their points coming at the rim, with 46 points and got 22 points off 21 Cowley turnovers. Conqs continued to share the ball well with 20 assists on 28 made field goals.
Melksham led the Conqs with a career-high 18 points on 8-13 shooting, adding three rebounds and two steals.
Saje Evans chipped in 12 points with seven other Conqs scoring four to nine points each.
Sofia Ahmed had nine points, and
Mailey Cunningham tallied eight.
The Conqs will look to rest up and work in practice through Thanksgiving break before hitting the court again for more KJCCC action on Saturday, November 29th at Cloud County.
