For the past nine years the Dodge City cross country team has opened their season in Hutchinson at the Terry Masterson Twilight Classic and this year the Conquistador women raced their way to a third-place team finish at the meet.
The Conqs posted 79 points for the meet only 16 points out of second place and first place was captured by an NCAA Division I school in Wichita State.
Three sub-20-minute times paced the Conqs to open the season, while the team's top five runners were all in the Top 20 overall.
Ivy Washington led the charge for the Conqs with a time of 19:43.64 and her sister,
Ava Washington was right behind her with a time of 19:46.87 as they finished 12th and 13th.
Sarai Chavez also went sub-20 minutes at 19:58.57 to earn 16th place.
Daniela Cerda in her first collegiate race earned 18th place with a time of 20:10.03, while
Abbi Worden finished 20th with a time of 20:29.61.
Three other Conqs were in action also as
Teressa Martinez posted a time of 21:42.45 to finish 32nd, while
Zoe Matthews and
Debora Guevara-Borjon logged their first college race finishing 37th (22:20.46) and 48th (24:02.61).
The Conqs are back in action on Friday, September 13th when they will compete at the Fort Hays State invite.
