After Long Break DC3 Softball has a Home Weekend

(Dodge City, Kansas) -- The Dodge City Community College Softball team has a pair of doubleheaders at home in Dodge City this weekend, against Independence Community College and Garden City Community College.

The Series

Vs. Independence Community College

  • Indy and Dodge City Community College have not met since prior to 2015.

Vs. Garden City Community College

  • The Pirates and Conquistadors split the season series last year, winning 2 games each.
  • Prior to last year, the Conqs have dominated the series going 12-1 since 2015, now 14-3 including last year's games.

Warning Track

  • Dodge City Community College has opened the season well, despite not getting on the field nearly as much as they would've liked. They are 6-2 in their first 8 games.
  • Despite not having a great start offensively, averaging 6 runs per game, the Conqs are 6thin the Jayhawk in OBP with a .404 mark.
  • The Conquistadors have had great pitching to start the season. Currently, their 2.93 team ERA is the 2ndbest in the KJCCC.
  • Jessica Espinoza is key in the success of the pitching staff, in her 28.2 innings pitched, she has allowed just 7 earned runs leading to an ERA of 1.71, good for the 5thbest in the conference.

Scouting

Independence Community College

  • The Pirates are 5-4.
  • Currently, they are on a bit of a hot streak, winning 3 of their previous 4 games.
  • They are hitting .340 on the young season.
  • Despite, the high batting average, they are averaging just 5 runs per game.
  • Pitching has helped to offset the low run production; their team ERA is 5thin the conference at 4.02.

Garden City Community College

  • Garden City has started out the season 5-5 after winning 2 straight games.
  • Hits have been aplenty thus far, with the team hitting .352, 4thbest in the KJCCC.
  • That has not led to a ton of run production, however as they are scoring 6.5 runs per game.
  • The Broncbuster pitching staff is currently producing a 4.29 era, 7thbest in the Jayhawk.
  • This is keyed by Madison Biller, who has a 1.27 ERA on the young season.
