Conqs Drop Home Opener to Butler, 3-1

Box Score DODGE CITY, Kan. – After splitting the first two sets, the Conquistadors fell to the Butler Grizzlies on Wednesday evening in four sets by scores of 21-25, 27-25, 21-25 and 11-25.
 
In set one, the Conquistadors fell behind early and the Grizzlies continued to hold the lead until the Conquistadors rattled off three straight points to take an 18-17 lead. Butler then found their rhythm again and eventually won the set, 25-21.
 
To start set two, the Conquistadors came out firing, grabbing an early lead before Butler was able to take a 13-12 lead. Both teams then went back and forth until the Conqs found a way to tie the game at 22. After another tie at 24, Dodge City gained the advantage and then Kate Warren put away the game winner to win set two, 27-25.
 
The Grizzlies bounced back in set three, taking an early lead, but then the Conqs were able to fight their way back and take a 12-11 lead. The lead then changed three more times throughout the rest of the set. Dodge City cut the lead to one after a timeout, but the Grizzlies then poured it on, winning set three, 25-21.
 
Fell behind early. Take a 12-11 lead. Butler takes the lead back, 18-17. Conqs take it back 19-18. Grizzlies take it back 20-19. Cut it to one on service error but the Grizzlies take set three, 25-21.
 
With all the momentum on their side, the Grizzlies pulled away early in set four and never looked back. The Conquistadors could not find the energy they had in the first two sets, losing set four, 20-11.
 
Dodge City moves to 0-8 on the year and will be in action again on Sept. 7, when they travel to Trinidad, Colo., for the Trinidad Invitational.
