Women's Soccer Gets Last Second Victory

Box Score The Conquistador women's soccer team picked up a last second victory against rival Garden City Community College on Wednesday at Memorial Stadium. The Conqs managed to find the goal with less than one second left on the clock in double overtime to come away with the 2-1 victory.

In the first half of the game Dodge City dominated ball control and had multiple opportunities to score. It appeared that they had taken a lead about midway through the first half when Pam Rosales buried a rebound off of a free kick in the net, but she was called offside negating the goal. Bryanna Chavez had two great opportunities in the first half, but she hit the post on one and was turned away by Garden City's keeper Kaylee Keller on the other.

The second half did not start well for the Conqs as they continued to control possession, but the Broncbusters managed to get a goal on their first opportunity of the second half. That put Garden up by a 1-0 count. The score would stay that way until late in regulation. Dodge City finally got a breakthrough with 5:58 left in regulation as D'Ana Prieto continued her hot streak and chipped one over the keeper to knot the score up at one.

The score would remain that way through the end of regulation, the entire first overtime and almost 10 minutes of the second overtime. Finally as time was running out, Liliana Vasquez started a counter attach for the Conqs. She managed to find Valery Aldaba on the left wing and she snuck a shot by Keller with just .3 seconds left on the clock to give Dodge City the 2-1 victory.

The win pushed the Conquistador record to 5-5-1 overall and 4-3 in conference. They will be back in action at home on Saturday as they host Pratt Community College at 2:00pm to start the second round of conference play.
