Volleyball Drops Home Match to Independence

Box Score Dodge City Volleyball continued their struggles as they dropped a very tough home match to Independence Community College in four sets, losing by scores of 25-23, 23-25, 25-23, and 26-24.
The first set was very evenly matched all the way through with neither team leading by more than three points throughout the set. The score was tied multiple times throughout the set at 3, 6, 9, 15, and 22. Indy managed to get two points to lead 24-22 then the Conqs fought back, but Indy got the last point to win the first set 25-23.
The Conqs jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the second set as they seemed to have more energy to start the set. Once again though, it was a tight battle all the way through the set. At one point the Conqs managed to push their lead out to 13-7, but then gave up a 7-1 Indy run to knot the score up at 14. Indy eventually pushed out to a 20-18 lead, but the Conqs were not done yet. They came back with the help of blocking by their front line and won the set by a score of 25-23 to tie the match a 1-1.
The third set was similar to the first two as Indy jumped out to a quick 6-3 lead, but Dodge jumped right back in it to tie it up at six. Eventually the Pirates pushed their lead all the way out to 21-13. The Conqs hung tough at that point and battled back with an 8-2 run of their own to get the score 23-21 in favor of Indy. After a point from Indy the Conqs scored two, but could not get over the hump as the Pirates won the third set by another 25-23 score.
In the fourth set the Pirates jumped out 2-0 but a quick five point run put Dodge City up 5-2. From their Indy scored 10 of the next 13 points to take a 12-8 lead. The Conqs were once again able to tie the match at 14, 18, and 20. Indy then pushed ahead for a 24-20 lead, but Dodge would not go away. Sophomore Kate Warren pushed four serves in a row into points to tie the set at 24. Unfortunately that is all the Conqs would get as they gave up two consecutive points to drop the fourth set 26-24. That gave Independence the match by a 3-1 score.
The Conqs have little time to dwell on the match as they will be back in action at home on Monday night against Pratt Community College at 6:30 at the Student Activity Center.
