Box Score CHANUTE, Kan. – To open the 2018 season, the Conquistador volleyball team traveled to Neosho Community College where they were swept by the Panthers.
"We started out trusting the process," head coach
Rachel Williams said. "We had our ups and downs in serving and serve receive, but struggled to keep our settle off the net."
In the first set, the Conquistadors had a little bit of trouble passing the ball, which eventually made the Conqs one-dimensional. Neosho was able to grab and early lead and hold onto that lead for the remainder of the set to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
"We started to figure things out in the second and third sets when we started getting our middles more involved," coach Williams said. "We need to keep working on our defense, staying disciplined and looking at the right things."
In set two, the Conquistadors began to find their stride, but the Panthers were still able to go on multiple runs to push their lead out of reach and win the second set to give them a 2-0 lead in the match.
To begin the third set, the Panthers jumped out to a 6-0 lead, but the Conquistadors would not go down easily, quickly cutting the lead to just two, 10-8. Neosho then continued to add to their lead and eventually won the third set to take the match, 3-0.
"We are going big and will begin to figure it out," Williams said. "I'm excited about our progress and I'm proud of how we played tonight."
