Box Score DODGE CITY, Kan. - Despite tying the game in the sixth inning, the Conquistadors fell to #2 Seward in the first round of the Region VI Softball tournament on Friday by as score of 6-4.
Jordyn McDaniel got the start and threw 2.1 innings, and allowed three runs on five hits, but got off the hook when the Conqs tied the game in the sixth.
Emily Stephenson then pitched 2.2 innings and allowed three more runs and was credited with the loss.
Natalie Segovia threw the final inning and allowed just one hit in four batters.
Dodge City collected just five hits in the game, with three hits coming from
Alex Stecklein and two hits coming from
Samantha Montano.
After two scoreless innings to start the game, Seward was able to get three runs across in the bottom of the third on a single, a sac-fly and a double to take an early 3-0 lead.Â
The Conquistadors were then able to cut the lead to one in the fourth inning as
Jade Brallier hit a sac-fly to score
Trina Rathgeber from third, then Stecklein singled over the shortstops head. Seward then was able to get one back in the bottom of the fourth as miscommunication in the outfield let a ball drop to make the score 4-2.
It was not until the sixth inning that
Brittney Gonzalez roped a ball to the second baseman who committed an error that scored two runs and tied the game at four late in the game. In the very next half inning, the Saints took the lead once more, scoring two runs on a single to center. The Saints would then collect three outs in the top of the seventh to win the game 6-4.
Dodge City will be in action again tomorrow, Saturday, April 28 when they will play Northwest Tech in an elimnation game at 11 a.m.
