Conqs Swept by NW Tech to End Regular Season

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DODGE CITY, Kan. - Despite leading in both games, the Conquistadors were swept by Northwest Tech on Monday in a home game that Northwest Tech was actually the home team. The Mavericks walked-off on the Conqs in game one, 6-5, then won game two by a score of 9-5.

Jordyn McDaniel pitched game one for Dodge City, throwing 7.2 innings before the game ended. In the game, she allowed four earned runs and collected one strikeout.

After two scoreless innings, Dodge City got on the board first in the top of the third, scoring two runs on singles from Brittney Gonzalez and Samantha Montano to give Dodge City a 2-0 lead.

With runners on first and third in the fourth inning, Dodge City added one to their lead as Leslie Ortiz stole second and Alex Stecklein scored on a passed ball by the catcher to make it 3-0. The Mavericks were able to get their first two runs across in the bottom of the fourth, after a two out walk followed by a single and a double to cut the lead to 3-2.

In the fifth, the Mavericks added two more to take their first lead of the game, 4-3. Jade Brallier responded in the very next inning, as she led off with her fourth home run of the year to quickly tie the game at four. In the bottom of the sixth, an error helped the Mavericks take the lead again giving the Conquistadors one more chance to tie the game. The Conquistadors did just that in the top of the seventh as Gonzalez led off with a double and Montano brought her in with a single to right field to tie the game at five and send it to extras.

Northwest Tech got a single to start the inning and advanced to second on an error by Dodge City. After two quick outs and now a runner on third, a walk got the Mavericks back to the top of the lineup. The leadoff hitter then hit the very first pitch back up the middle to score the winning run and give Northwest Tech a 6-5 win.

Emily Stephenson got the start in game two and threw 2.1 innings and allowed four runs before Jordyn McDaniel took over to finish the third inning, allowing three runs. Brittany Kendall then entered in the fourth and threw the final 3.0 innings and allowed just two runs and collected two strikeouts.

The offense got going quick in game two as Gonzalez led off with a single and Caley Best quickly followed with a double to score Gonzalez. After an error by the first baseman, McDaniel hit a sac-fly to right field to score Best from third and give Dodge City a 2-0 lead. With two outs in the bottom of the first inning, Northwest Tech was able to collect back-to-back hits and score two runs of their own to tie the game at two after just one inning.

A flyout to start the third for Dodge City was followed by three consecutive hits, capped off by a single from Brallier to score one and give Dodge City the lead back, 3-2. Northwest Tech responded well in the very next half inning scoring four runs on five hits, highlighted by a triple to take a 6-3 lead after three innings of play.

Montano then collected another RBI in the fourth inning on a single up the middle, but again, the Mavericks responded with a run of their own to make the score 7-4. Dodge City was able to get their final run in the sixth inning on a single from Best, but the Mavericks were not done yet, adding two in the bottom of the sixth to win game two, 9-5.

Dodge City finishes the regular season with an overall record of 14-30 and 7-21 in KJCCC play. They will be in action again on Friday as they host the Region VI Softball Tournament at Legends Park. A full bracket will be released in the next few days.
