Conqs Split with Colby in Doubleheader on Sun.

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 COLBY, Kan. – After getting swept at home on Thursday, the Conquistadors found a way to win game one on Sunday to split the day, winning game one, 13-3 and losing game two, 12-2.

Padraic Walsh threw all seven innings in game one, striking out five batters and allowing just three runs on eight hits to receive the win.

Both Colton Onstott and Cooper Shearon went 3-for-5 in game one, as Onstott was just a triple short of the cycle and Shearon collected a home run and two doubles.

The Conqs got their offense going early in game one as they jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning, scoring runs on a single, a groundout and a passed ball.

Again in the second inning, the Conqs got on the board, this time scoring four runs with a little bit of help from the Trojan defense. An error score one run on a sac-bunt, then later in the inning, the Conqs got a groundout and a single to score one run a piece. Another single by Garrett McGowan before the end of the inning gave Dodge City a 7-0 lead.

The Trojans got on the board in the bottom of the third inning on a sac-fly then a single to cut into the lead, 7-2. Dodge City then responded in the very next half inning as Shearon cleared the wall in left for a solo home run and gave Dodge City an 8-2 lead.

After the Trojans got one more in the bottom of the fourth, Dodge City got two runs in the top of the sixth on a leadoff home run from Onstott and a single from Griffin McBride.

Not leaving any doubt, Dodge city tacked on three runs in the top of the seventh on a two-run double from Onstott and another double from Shearon. Walsh then struck out all three batters in the bottom of the seventh to win game one, 13-3.

Game two was a completely different story. Foster Gifford threw 4.2 innings and allowed five runs. Then Joe Milano took over to finish the inning as he allowed two runs. Taylor Lepard threw the sixth inning and allowed just one hit before Jacob Taylor threw the final inning.

The offense could not get going in game two, as the Trojans put up four runs before the Conqs could get on the board. Down 4-0, the Conqs scored one in the top of the fourth on a single from McGowan.

After the Trojans put up three in the bottom of the fifth, Shearon singled to score Tate and gave Dodge City their second run.  Colby then added two in the bottom of the sixth and three in the bottom of the seventh to finish the game and give Colby a 12-2 win.

Dodge City is now 28-21 on the year and 12-16 in KJCCC play. They will play again on Tuesday in a single 9-inning game against Lamar Community College at Cavalier Field at 3 p.m.
