Box Score 2 Dodge City baseball looked to continue its momentum after sweeping Colby on the road on Wednesday, but was unable to take the series as the Trojans came to Dodge City and took two games for the series split.
The Conquistadors dropped the final games of the regular season 4-1 and 14-5, falling to 24-29 on the season and 13-19 in KJCCC action.
The Conqs now gear up for the postseason as they will travel for the first round of the Region 6 tournament, with that matchup still to be determined.
Game 1 – Lost 4-1 vs Colby
The Conqs got on the board first to open the day, capitalizing on a pair of singles in the second inning to score a run, but Colby countered with a solo home run in the third to draw even. The home run ball remained a big part of the game moving forward, as the Trojans belted a two-run homer in the fourth to take the lead and a solo homer in the fifth to go up 4-1. The Conqs, after scoring in the third, managed just four more base runners in the contest as the offense struggled to get going, resulting in a 4-1 loss.
Lane French tossed a solid five innings in the loss as the starter, giving up four runs on six hits and one walk, while striking out three.
Sam Spencer threw two scoreless innings of relief, recording a pair of strikeouts and facing the minimum over that time.
Conqs had just five hits offensively, led by
Preston Harrison, who was 2-3 with a run scored, while
Angel Vazquez,
Will Soto, and
Jordi Guerrero each tallied a hit.
Game 2 – Lost 14-5 vs Colby
The series finale was tight for a handful of innings before Colby took control. The Conqs once again opened the scoring with a solo home run by
Hunter Morgan in the bottom of the first, but Colby answered back with a home run of their own in the second. The game remained locked up at 1-1 until the fourth when Colby tallied two runs. In the sixth, both teams got some offensive production as Colby batted around and using five hits and three hit batters scored seven runs. Down nine the Conqs looked to push back, and an RBI single by Harrison and a three-run homer from Soto plated four runs for the Conqs to make it a 10-5 game. Colby went on to add a run in the eighth and three in the ninth while the Conqs were unable to score again, falling 14-5.
Morgan led the offense for the Conqs, going 2-5 with a run scored, an RBI, and a home run, while Vazquez, Harrison, Soto, and
Jonah Andrade each had a hit. On the mound, four Conqs saw action in the regular season finale.
