Box Score 2 DODGE CITY, Kan. - Falling just short in game two, the Conquistadors dropped two games against Colby Community College on Thursday by scores of 8-1 and 9-8.
Carter Hogan started game one for Dodge City, throwing 4.1 innings and allowing five runs on eight hits. Jacob Taylor then entered the game and threw the final 2.2 innings and allowed one run on two hits.Â
In the second inning, Dodge City was able to get their only run of the game as
Garrett McGowan hit an opposite field solo home run to give Dodge City a 1-0 lead.
After Colby responded with one in the very next half inning, the Trojans took over for the rest of the game. Colby scored three runs in the fourth and four runs in the fifth and held Dodge City scoreless for the rest of the game to win game one, 8-1.
Jonny Chavez got the start in game two and pitched five innings while allowing five runs on five hits before handing the ball to
William Cain. Cain then threw one full inning and allowed two runs.
Taylor Lepard and
Eric Lindsay finished the game as Lepard threw an inning and Lindsay threw two with neither pitcher allowing a run.
Dodge City got ahead early again in game two, scoring two runs in the second inning on a single from
Ian Garcia and a bases loaded walk to
Blake Rast to take a 2-0 lead. Just like in game one, Colby responded in the very next inning, but this time they scored five runs in the inning to take a 5-2 lead.
Dauson Tate then hit a solo home run in the bottom of the third, cutting the Trojan lead to 5-3.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Conquistadors continued to cut into the lead, scoring one run on a double play to bring it within one. Colby then regained the momentum, scoring two in the sixth and two in the seventh to extend their lead back to 9-4. In the bottom of the seventh, after two walks to start the inning,
Colton Onstott singled to center and advanced to third on an error by the center fielder to score two. Tate then hit a sac-fly to score Onstott and cut the lead to 9-7.
Dodge City was able to get one in the bottom of the eighth, but went down in order int he bottom of the ninth to lose game two, 9-8.
Dodge City is now 27-20 on the year and 11-15 in KJCCC play. They will be in action again on Sunday as they travel to Colby to finish the series with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
