Conqs Swept by #5 Butler on Sunday

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DODGE CITY, Kan. – Showing fight throughout game two, the Conquistadors were swept by #5 Butler on Sunday by scores of 17-0 (5 innings) and 17-7 (5 innings).
 
Emily Stephenson got the start in game one, throwing 2.1 innings and allowing nine runs on six hits before Natalie Segovia took over. Segovia then allowed eight runs on eight hits before Brittany Kendall came in and threw the final 2.0 innings and allowed just one hit and got four strikeouts.
 
The Grizzlies were able to get on the board early with a two-run home run in the first, but then were held scoreless in the second inning. The third inning was their big inning as they scored 11 runs in the inning to take a 13-0 lead into the fourth.
 
In the top of the fourth, they added four runs to take a 17-0 lead and that is all they would need. Jade Brallier singled in the bottom of the fifth to give Dodge City their first base runner of the game. Dodge City could not make anything of the base runner as they lost game one, 17-0.
 
Jordyn McDaniel started game two in the circle and threw 1.1 innings and allowed 7 runs before Stephenson took over. Stephenson pitched just 0.2 innings before Kendall came in for the final 3.0 innings.
 
Again in game two, Butler got things going in the first inning, scoring four runs to take a 4-0 lead. Dodge City was able to respond in game two as they scored on an error by the pitcher and a single from Jade Brallier to cut the lead to 4-2.
 
Butler would not let the Conqs stay in it as they quickly added three runs in the second inning to take a 7-2 lead. Again in the third inning, the Grizzlies added to their lead, this time, scoring six runs to take an 13-2 lead.
 
Dodge City was able to keep fighting in the bottom of the third, scoring one run on a fielder's choice from Leslie Ortiz, then scoring two on a wild pitch and an error to make it 13-5.
 
Dodge City then held the Grizzlies scoreless in the top of the fourth and continued to cut into the lead with a single from McDaniel and a fielder's choice from Brallier to cut the lead to 13-7.
 
Butler then put up four runs in the top of the fifth before the Conqs went down in order in the bottom half, giving the Grizzlies a 17-7 win in game two.
 
Dodge City is now 12-28 on the year and 5-17 in KJCCC play. They will be in action for their final home game on Wednesday as they host Garden City at 2 and 4 p.m.
