Box Score 2 DODGE CITY, Kan. - After scoring a combined 64 runs on Thursday, but teams only combined for 20 runs on Sunday as they split once more with Dodge City winning game one, 7-4, and Seward winning game two, 5-4.
Padraic Walsh got the call for game one as he threw 6.0 innings and allowed four runs on six hits, with only two of the four runs being earned.
Eric Lindsay then came in and threw the final inning to collect the save.Â
Both teams went scoreless until the third inning when the Saints were able to grab a 3-0 lead, scoring two runs on a single and one run on an error. Dodge City then responded in the bottom half with two runs after
Cade Engle got a two-out double and then scored on a single from
Brayden Cook. Later in the inning, Onstott was hit by a pitch to move Cook to second and
Dauson Tate then doubled to give Dodge City their second run of the inning to cut the lead to 3-2.
In the bottom of the fourth,
Colton Talton led off with a single and on the very next pitch,
Griffin McBride laid down a bunt which scored Talton from first as the pitcher threw the ball down the right field line and tied the game at three.
Again in the bottom of the fifth Dodge City scored as Cook led off with a double and scored on a single from Onstott. Later in the inning, Talton singled to score Onstott and gave Dodge City a 5-3 lead heading into the sixth inning.Â
The Saints were able to get one run in the top of the sixth, but Dodge City would not let them mount a comeback as they added two more in the bottom of the sixth on a single from Engle and a sac-fly from Cook. Lindsay then entered for the seventh and after collecting one strikeout and a base hit, struck out the final two batters to win game one, 7-4.
Foster Gifford got the start in game two and threw six full innings and allowed four runs on seven hits before handing the ball to Jacob Taylor. Taylor was able to throw two innings of one hit baseball. Jacob English then took over and 0.1 innings before
Taylor Lepard came in for the final 0.2 innings.
After two quick outs in the bottom of the first, Onstott,
Tanner White and Tate collected three straight hits to give Dodge City a 1-0 lead. In the top of the second, the Saints scored two runs on two doubles to take a 2-1 lead, but Dodge City was able to tie it up in the bottom half on a groundout from Engle.
Dodge City then took the lead once more in the bottom of the third on a two-run single from
Garrett McGowan to give Dodge City a 4-2 lead.
The Saints then scored one in the fifth and one in the sixth to tie the game again and put the pressure on Dodge City. Both teams then went scoreless for the next two innings until Seward hit a solo home run in the top of the ninth to take a 5-4 lead. Dodge City got a baserunner in the bottom of the ninth, but could not get him across as they lost game two, 5-4.
Dodge City is now 25-18 on the year and 11-13 in KJCCC play. They will be in action again on Monday, April 16 as they travel to Tabor College for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
