Box Score DODGE CITY, Kan. - In a battle that went back-and-forth for the entire game, the Conquistadors were able to win on a walk-off single as they defeated Frank Phillips College, 13-12 on Wednesday afternoon.
Tanner White got the offense going in just the first inning, going opposite field for a home run to drive in two runs and quickly give Dodge City a 2-0 lead. In the second inning, the Plainsmen were able to tie the game at two on a double and an error.
Again in the third inning, the Conqs were able to get two runs across as
Cade Engle doubled, scoring
Colton Talton and
Britt Logan to push the lead back to two, 4-2.Â
The Plainsmen were able to grab their first lead of the game in the third inning as they score five runs on just four hits, highlighted by a two-run home run over the right field wall to take a 7-4 lead.
In the fourth inning, Engle was able to plate two more on another double, and
Griffin McBride was able to single just five pitches later to bring in the third run of the inning and tie the game at seven.
Every time the Conqs put up runs, it seemed like Frank Phillips had an answer scoring two runs in the top of the fifth as a leadoff triple eventually score on a two-out single. The Plainsmen were then able to get one more on another triple to make it 9-7.
After a leadoff pop-out, the Conqs hit four straight singles to score two runs.
Dauson Tate plated one more on a sac-fly and
Cooper Shearon singled to give Dodge City four runs in the inning and an 11-9 lead.
After the Plainsmen got two runs in the top of the eighth to tie the game, Dodge City followed that up with a run of their own on a hit by pitch to take a one run lead into the ninth inning.
The very first batter of the ninth inning homered to right field for the second time in the game, tying the game at 12 and forcing Dodge City to come to the plate in the bottom half.
McBride led off the inning with a double and was quickly followed by a single from Onstott to plate McBride and give Dodge City the 13-12 win.Â
Dodge City is now 9-5 on the year and stays at 1-3 in KJCCC play. They will be in action again tomorrow as they take on Barton at 1 and 3 p.m.
