Box Score 2 EL DORADO, Kan. - The Conquistadors could not find any sort of rhythm on Tuesday afternoon at Butler as they lost two games to the Grizzlies by scores of 30-2 (5 innings) and 14-0 (5 innings).
Giving up 30 runs in the first game, the Conqs did most of the damage themselves, with just 11 of the 30 runs being earned.
Both teams went down in order in the first innings, but in the bottom of the second, the Grizzlies were able to get on the board, scoring four runs on five hits, highlighted by a two-run home run.
In the bottom of the third inning, Butler tacked on nine runs on just four hits, while Dodge City committed five errors to give Butler a 13-0 lead. In the top of the fourth, the Conqs were able to scratch one across on a wild pitch but that's all they would get in the inning, making it, 13-1.
The fourth inning is where the Grizzlies did most of their damage, scoring 16 runs in the inning on 12 hits, pushing their lead to 30-1. The Conqs then got the bases loaded in the top of the fifth inning and were able to push one more run across and make the score 30-2 before a groundout ended the game.
In game two, the Conqs struggled to score, as Butler won, 14-0.
The Grizzlies got things going early in the first inning, scoring five runs and never looked back. Butler was able to add four runs in the second to make it 9-0.
Dodge City was able to get a little bit of momentum in the third, getting the bases loaded with no outs, but the Conqs then collected three straight outs, leaving the bases loaded.
Butler added two more in the third and three more in the fourth to take a 14-0 lead and push the game out of reach.
The Conqs are now 7-9 on the year and 2-4 in KJCCC play. They will be in action again tomorrow at Barton Community College for a doubleheader beginning at 1 and 3 p.m.
