Box Score 2 EL DORADO, Kan. - After two losses to Butler on Thursday in Dodge City, the Conqs traveled to Butler Community College on Saturday where they split two games, losing game one, 10-3 and winning game two, 16-9.
Cooper Shearon got the scoring started in game one with a solo home run to give Dodge City a 1-0 lead after two innings. In the bottom of the third, the Grizzlies hit a solo home run of their own to tie the game at one.
On three straight hits to start the inning and a fielder's choice, Butler was able to get two more in the fourth to make it, 3-1. The fifth inning is where the Grizzlies pulled away, scoring six runs, highlighted by back-to-back home runs, making the score, 9-1.
After Butler got one more in the bottom of the sixth, making it 10-1, the Conqs were able to scratch two runs across in the top of the seventh but that is all they would get as they lost game one, 10-3.
Dodge City's bats got hot to start game two, scoring five runs in the top of the first inning, highlighted by a two-run double from
Dauson Tate. Again in the top of the second, back-to-back doubles from Tate and
Garrett McGowan quickly gave Dodge City a 7-0 lead.
After Butler got one run in the bottom of the second, they added three more in the bottom of the fourth to cut the Dodge City lead to 7-4.
The Conqs were able to get those three runs back in the top of the sixth as a bases loaded walk and back-to-back errors by the Grizzlies gave the Conqs three runs, pushing the lead back to 10-4.
Staying hot at the plate, Tate and McGowan were able to hit back-to-back solo home runs in the top of the seventh, followed by an error and a single by
Brayden Cook to give Dodge City two more runs and make the score 14-4. The Grizzlies quickly got those four runs back in the bottom half of the inning on an error, a passed ball and a two-run home run, making the score, 14-8.
Cameron Fritz hit a two-run shot in the top of the ninth to extend the lead to 16-8.
Jake English gave up one run in the bottom of the ninth, but closed it down from there, giving Dodge City a 16-9 win in game two.Â
Dodge City is now 8-5 overall and 1-3 in KJCCC play. They will be in action again on Tuesday for a single game against Frank Phillips College at 3 p.m.
