Box Score 2 DODGE CITY, Kan. - Run-ruling the Blue Jays in both games, the Conquistadors were able to sweep Tabor College JV on Tuesday afternoon by scores of 14-4 (6 innings) and 11-1 (5 innings).
Padraic Walsh got the start in game one and threw 3.1 innings and allowed two runs on six hits while striking out four, before being replaced by
Logan Angeron. Angeron then threw the next 1.2 innings, allowing one run on two hits.
Taylor Lepard finished out the game and striking out three batters and not allowing a hit.Â
Tanner White led Dodge City with four hits in the game in just four at-bats, but
Tanner White was able to lead the team with three RBI.
Dodge City got on the board early in game one as
Cade Engle led off with a double.
Brayden Cook then followed it up with a single to score one, then after a single from Onstott,
Dauson Tate hit a sac-fly to score Cook and give Dodge City a 2-0 lead.
The Blue Jays were able to get four hits in the top of the third, including three straight singles with two outs to score two runs and quickly tie the game at two. Then in the top of the fourth, two errors came back to bite the Conqs as a sac-fly scored a run to give Tabor College at 3-2 lead.
Tate then led off the bottom half of the fourth with a bunt single, and after two quick outs, the Conqs bats came alive.
Ian Garcia was hit by a pitch, then a double from
Blake Rast scored Tate and Garcia to give the lead back to Dodge City, 4-3. After a walk to Engle and back-to-back singles by Cook and Onstott, the Conqs added two more to take a 6-3 lead into the fifth inning.
After the Blue Jays got a run in the top of the fifth, the Conqs were not able to respond until the sixth inning. In the bottom of the sixth, Engle led off with another single. Onstott then walked and White followed it up with a no-doubt home run to quickly push the lead to 9-4. The Conquistador offense did not stop there, as Tate singled,
Cameron Fritz doubled and McGowan doubled to make it 10-4. A sac-fly from
Ian Garcia, a bases loaded walk to Cook and a single from Onstott gave the Conqs a 14-4 win in game one.Â
Griffin McBride got the start in game two on the mound and made the most of it as six of the first seven outs were strikeouts. In just three innings of work, McBride struck out six batters and did not allow a run.
Aaron Duncan and
Jake English both pitched in relief with Duncan throwing one inning and allowing one run and English throwing one inning and not allowing a single hit.Â
Dodge City was able to get one run in the bottom of the first on another no-doubt home run, this time by
Cooper Shearon to give the Conqs a 1-0 lead.Â
Again in the second inning, the Conqs got on the board, as both
Ethan Bergkamp and
Britt Logan scored on an error by the shortstop to quickly push the lead to 3-0.
To keep the pattern going, the Conqs added three runs in the third, scoring two runs on a single from Bergkamp and one on a sac-fly from Logan to extend their lead to 6-0.
In the top of the fourth, the Blue Jays finally got on the board, but the Conqs responded with five runs in the bottom of the fourth. A bases loaded double by Tate scored two, a single from
Colton Talton scored two and a bases loaded hit-by-pitch to
Alan Garcia extended the lead to 11-1.
Jake English then entered the game and after the leadoff batter reached on an error, he got the next three batters out to win the game 11-1 in five innings.
Dodge Cityis now 19-9 on the year and will be in action again on Thursday as they travel to Hutchinson Community College for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
