Box Score 2 GARDEN CITY, Kan. - After the Conqs lost game one in a walk-off, 5-4, all the momentum went to Garden City as they won game two by a score of 10-0 in five innings.
Jordyn McDaniel was the starter in game one and threw all 6.2 innings and allowed five runs on eight hits. Going into the sixth inning, McDaniel had allowed just one hit and no runs.
In a very fast paced game, neither team scored until Dodge City got two runs across in the top of the fifth. Playing small ball, the Conquistadors were able to score two runs as
Brittney Gonzalez and
Alex Stecklein scored after a great sac-bunt from
Brittany Kendall to take a 2-0 lead.
Back-to-back triples by the Busters to start the sixth inning tied the game at two, then Garden City was able to take the lead on a solo home run to take a 3-2 lead into the final inning.
In the top of the seventh, Kendall hit a grounded out to the right side to score Stecklein to tie the game, then
Samantha Montano had a clutch single to give Dodge City the lead back, 4-3.
With runners on first and second in the bottom of the seventh and two outs, a fly-ball to center got lost in the sun and dropped to score a run and tie the game at four. The very next batter singled to left field to score the run and win the game, 5-4.
Brittany Kendall got the start in game two and threw 3.0 innings and allowed five runs on seven hits. McDaniel and
Emily Stephenson threw in relief as McDaniel allowed three runs in one inning of work and Stephenson allowed two runs in 0.2 innings.
Garden City carried their momentum into game two and scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning to take an early 4-0 lead, and never looked back. After adding one run in the third inning, the Broncbusters added five more in the bottom of the fifth, capped off by a three-run home run to run-rule the Conqs, 10-0.
Dodge City is now 9-19 on the year and 2-8 in KJCCC play. They will continue conference play on Monday as they host Pratt Community College in a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
