Box Score 2 DODGE CITY, Kan. - The Dodge City Community College baseball team took a break from KJCCC play on Wednesday and took down Otero Junior College in both games on Tuesday by scores of 5-1 and 7-3.
Carter Hogan got the start in game one and allowed just one run and struck out five batters in four innings.
Joe Milano and
Mahlyk Davis also pitched in the game as they combined to allow zero runs.Â
The Rattlers were able to get their only run of the game in the top of the first on two singles and a wild pitch, but the Conqs responded quickly and never looked back.Â
In the bottom of the second,
Tanner White led off with a solo home run, then a fielder's choice and a single by
Blake Rast gave Dodge City two more as they took a 3-1 lead.Â
Adding two more runs in the bottom of the fourth, on a
Dauson Tate leadoff home run and back-to-back singles from
Ian Garcia and
Cameron Fritz to win game one, 5-1.
William Cain got the call on the bump for game two and threw four innings and allowed three runs on four hits, while striking out three batters.
Padraic Walsh and
Logan Angeron both came in and relief and combined for four strikeouts in just three innings of work.
Both teams were scoreless until the Conqs came to bat in the bottom of the third.
Griffin McBride doubled to left to score a run,
Cameron Fritz singled to score a run and
Cooper Shearon capped it off with a two-run home run to give Dodge City a 4-0 lead.
The Rattlers followed that up with three runs of their own on a three-run home run in the top of the next inning to cut the lead to 4-3.
In the bottom of the fifth, Dodge City was able to get one on a single from Tate. In the very next inning, the Conqs were able to tack on two more as Jacob Taylor singled and
Garrett Allen laid down a bunt to take a 7-3 lead.Â
In the top of the seventh, Angeron took a hard ground ball off the leg on the first batter, but hung with it and got the out at first. After staying in the game, Angeron got the final two outs on strikeouts as the Conqs won, 7-3.
Dodge City is now 12-8 on the year and stays at 2-6 in KJCCC play. They will be in action again next Tuesday as they host Oklahoma Panhandle State at 2 and 4 p.m.
