Box Score 2 ROSWELL, N.M. – The Dodge City baseball team split two game against New Mexico Military Institute on Saturday afternoon, losing game one, 2-7 and winning game two, 9-3.
Joe Buckendorff got the start in game one, allowing two runs on three hits.
Carter Hogan also pitched in game one, allowing four runs on six hits.
Collecting just three hits in the game, the Conqs got production from
Cade Engle,
Dauson Tate and
Ian Garcia.
A two-out walk in the first inning came back to bite the Broncos as Onstott scored on a single from Tate.
It took until the bottom of the fourth for the Broncos to get on the board, scratching across two runs to take a 2-1 lead at the end of the inning.
In the very next half inning, the Conquistadors were able to tie the game at two as
Ian Garcia hit a one-out double and came around to score on a single from Engle.
New Mexico Military was able to get one run in the fifth to take the lead back and then extended their lead in the bottom of the sixth, scoring four runs on four hits, highlighted by a three-run triple to give the Broncos a 7-2 lead.
The Conqs were able to get a runner on in the seventh, but a double play ended the game and gave Dodge City their first loss of the season, 7-2.
Tyler Whalen got the start in game two, throwing 4.0 innings and allowing just three runs on three hits. Jacob Taylor then entered the game in the fifth and threw three innings and allowed just one hit.
McGowan got the scoring going in game two with a solo home run in the second inning to give Dodge City a 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the third, the Broncos hit a solo home run of their own to tie the game at one heading into the fourth inning. The Broncos were then able to add two more runs on a two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth, taking a 3-1 lead.
After a strikeout to start the fifth, the Conqs collected six straight hits including a double from
Garrett Allen as Dodge City scored three runs and took a 4-3 lead in the game.
McGowan was able to score again in the sixth inning, and added four more in the seventh inning to extend their lead and win the game, 9-3.
Dodge City is now 5-1 on the year and will be in action again tomorrow for a single game against New Mexico Military at 12 p.m. (MST) or 1 p.m. (CT).
