Box Score ROSWELL, N.M. - After falling behind 10-6 in the fifth inning, the Conqs scored every inning for the rest of the game and defeated New Mexico Military on Friday, 15-13.
Jonny Chavez threw four innings for Dodge City, allowing eight runs on seven hits.
Eric Lindsay and
Bryce Newsom were the other two Conqs to pitch in the game, with Lindsay throwing three innings and Newsom throwing two.Â
Garrett Allen led the Conqs with three hits on the day, while
Cade Engle,
Colton Onstott,
Dauson Tate and
Cooper Shearon each added two hits. Allen and Engle both had four RBI in the game.Â
Right after the Broncos added one run in the bottom of the first, the Conqs scored five runs in the top of the third to take a 5-1 lead. In the inning, the Conqs collected four hits, highlighted by home runs from
Garrett McGowan and Allen.Â
The Broncos responded in the very next inning, scoring four runs and adding one more in the bottom of the fourth to take a 6-5 lead. The Conqs were able to tie the game in the top of the fifth, but New Mexico Military put up four more runs in the bottom of the fifth to extend the lead to 10-6.
With all the momentum on the Broncos side, the Conqs would not go away, scoring three runs in the top of the sixth on a three-run home run from Engle to cut the lead to one, 10-9. Â
The Broncos added one run in the bottom of the sixth, but a three-run home run by Shearon quickly shifted the momentum back to Dodge City and gave them a 12-11 lead.
After New Mexico Military took the lead back in the bottom of the seventh, 13-12, the Conqs were able to score one in the eighth on a Tate triple and two in the ninth and hold the Broncos scoreless for the rest of the game as they won, 15-13.
The Conqs are now 3-0 on the year and will play a doubleheader on Saturday vs. New Mexico Military at 12 p.m. (MST) or 1 p.m. (CT).
