Box Score PORTALES, N.M. - Scoring nine runs in the third inning, helped lead the Conquistadors to a victory over Eastern New Mexico JV on Thursday afternoon.

Padraic Walsh and
Taylor Lepard all pitched at least one inning on Thursday, combining to allow seven runs on eight hits. Only five of the seven runs were earned on the day.Â
After getting a run in the first inning on a fielder's choice and a run in the second inning on back-to-back hits, the Conquistadors were able to scratch across nine runs in the top of the third to extend their lead to 11-0.
A leadoff walk to start the third, followed by a triple from
Dauson Tate got things going. The Conqs would collect five more hits in the inning, highlighted by a double from
Garrett McGowan, a triple by
Colton Onstott and singles from
Cade Engle,
Brayden Cook and
Cooper Shearon.
In the bottom of the third, the Conquistadors gave up their first run of the game to cut the lead to 11-1, but quickly got that run back in the top of the fourth as a leadoff walk to
Garrett Allen later came around to score on a two-out double from Onstott.
Back-to-back doubles to start the fifth, followed by a home run from
Colton Talton quickly added three runs for the Conquistadors and made the score 15-1 heading into the sixth.Â
The Greyhounds were able to get three runs back in the bottom of the sixth as they scored on three hits and one error.
After the Conqs added one run in the top of the ninth on a sac-fly from
Raymond Urrutia, the Conqs gave up three runs in the bottom of the ninth on two walks, one hit and two errors. Although the Greyhounds cut the lead to nine, that is the closest they would get as the Conqs won, 16-7.
Dodge City is now 3-0 on the year and will be in action again on Friday as they play New Mexico Military at 2 p.m. (MST) or 3 p.m. (CT). Â
