Conqs Sweep Bethany for 7th Straigh Win

Box Score LINDSBORG, Kan. – After giving up just eight points in set one, sets two and three were a lot more competitive, as the Conqs swept Bethany College JV by scores of 25-8, 25-22 and 25-22.

With the win, the Conqs have now won seven straight matches for the first time since 2010 when Dodge City rattled off 10-straight wins.

The Conquistadors came out on fire, scoring the first five points of the game before a kill by the Swedes made the score 5-1. After Bethany scored once more, the Conqs then scored four straight to make it 9-2 early, forcing Bethany to call a timeout.

Coming out of the timeout, Dodge City was able to continue their dominance, going on 11-3 run to make the score 20-5. After allowing three more points, the Conqs scored the last two points to win set one, 25-8.

The Swedes were able to take a 4-2 lead in set two, but the Conqs were able to fight their way back, taking a 7-4 lead after going on a 5-0 run. Bethany fired right back, going on a 7-0 run of their own, taking the lead once more, 11-7.

Dodge City was able to take a 23-20 lead late in set two, forcing the Swedes to take a timeout. After the timeout, Bethany cut the lead to 24-23, but a kill by Dodge City, ended the second set, 25-22.

Set three did not start the way the Conqs wanted it to, quickly falling behind, 6-1, but Dodge City quickly corrected their mistakes, taking the lead right back, 7-6. The Conquistadors eventually extended their lead to 11-6.

Bethany was able to tie the game late in the third set at 20 and then take a 21-20 lead, but the Conqs took the next point to tie the game once more at 21.

An error by Bethany gave the lead back to Dodge City, and the Conqs never looked back, winning set three, 25-22 and winning the match, 3-0.

The Conqs are now 15-7 on the year and will be in action again on Wednesday, Sept. 27, as they host Barton County Community College at 6:30 p.m.
