Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 HUTCHINSON, Kan. - Kicking off a key Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference series, the Dodge City Community College baseball team could not get any type of offense started in an 11-0 and 10-0 loss at the hands of No. 14-nationally ranked Hutchinson Community College at Hobart-Detter Field in Hutchinson on Saturday, April 8th.
DC3 falls to 20-14 overall and 12-6 in the KJCCC while the Blue Dragons improved to 28-11 and 16-6 in the Jayhawk Conference.
Game one would find the Conquistadors limited to just five hits in the game as HCC would jump out to a 4-0 lead after one inning of play. Dodge City would see a one-out single by
Richard Fullerton in the top of the second erased on an inning ending double-play before Hutchinson would push their lead to 7-0 with a pair of home runs in the bottom of the second.
A scoreless third inning would be of little help for DC3, as the Blue Dragons would go on to plate two in the fourth before adding a run in the fifth to end the game via mercy rule.
No Conquistador player would wind up with an extra-base hit in the game as
Cade Engle,
Brayden Cook,
Talon Schaller, Fullerton, and
Robert Perea would manage to come up with all singles in the game. Starting pitcher
Tommy Knowlton would take the loss in the game, throwing just 1.1 innings and giving up seven runs (all earned).
With a chance to rebound in game two, DC3 would keep things close early on before seeing the Blue Dragons explode with an eight-run fifth inning to jump all over the Conquistadors and force another early ending. A leadoff single by Engle would end up being erased on a fielder's choice along with a line out and strike out to end the inning. HCC would put up a single run in the bottom of the first before adding a pair of runs in the bottom of second to take a 3-0 lead into the third inning.
The game would remain at a three-run deficit for Dodge City until the bottom of the fifth as the Blue Dragons would hit three home runs in the inning and do a majority of their damage with one-out in the inning. Trailing by double-digits, Engle would collect his second hit of the game which would wind up being DC3's only two hits of the game as Hutchinson starting pitcher David Tudhope would throw a complete game.
Hayden Davey suffered his first loss of the year to fall to 1-1 overall after throwing four innings and giving up three runs on five hits while issuing five walks and striking out seven.
Gavin Gifford ,
J.T. Mossberg, and
Eric Lindsay would also see action on the mound for the Conquistadors.
Now two games back of HCC, Dodge City will meet up with the Blue Dragons again on Sunday to close out their four-game series with a doubleheader starting a 1 p.m.
