Box Score 2 HILLSBORO, Kan. - Stepping back out from Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference play, the Dodge City Community College baseball team picked up a 9-3 and 6-2 win over the Tabor College JV team to push their win streak to nine games in Hillsboro, Kansas on Wednesday, March 8th.
DC3 is now eight games over .500 at 12-4 overall with their last loss coming back on February 25th to New Mexico Military Institute.
Game one would see the Conquistadors lead 3-0 after one inning of play and take a 4-0 lead heading into the third inning after tacking on a single run in the second. The Bluejays would cut the Dodge City lead to 4-3 in the bottom of the third before DC3 would plate three runs in the third to go along with insurance runs in the sixth and seventh innings. Outhitting Tabor JV 11-6 in the game, DC3 would also take advantage of six Bluejay errors to help seal the game. Leadoff batter
Cade Engle would go two-for-five in the game win one run scored while
Robert Perea would collect two hits.
Dauson Tate and
Gavin Gifford would each drive in three runs.
Hayden Davey would go two-plus innings, giving up three runs on three hits while striking out five.
Jonny Chavez would work three innings in relief of shutout baseball, allowing just two hits before
J.T. Mossberg tossed the final two innings of one-hit baseball.
Both hits and runs would be at more of a premium in the second game of the twinbill, with each team collecting six hits in the game. After pushing across a single run in the top of the first, DC3 would trail for the only time of the day after Tabor JV plated two in the bottom of the first to take a 2-1 lead. DC3 would tie the game at two in the top of the second before two and a half scoreless innings would keep the game deadlocked. The fourth inning finally saw Dodge City break through by putting up a four-spot to take a four-run lead at 6-2, which would end up being the final margin of victory. Chavez would drive in one run with a hit in his only official at-bat of the game while cleanup batter
Talon Schaller would go two-for-four. No other Conquistador would finish with more than one hit as
Sylman Pando,
Jon Coss, and
Evan Wilson all had one hit each.
Gifford would toss four innings to pick up the win, giving up two runs on five hits while striking out three before making way for relief pitcher
Eric Lindsay who would toss a scoreless fifth.
Jeremy Hidalgo would get the call in the sixth before
Dalton Harvey would close out the game.
DC3 will return to Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference play on Saturday, March 11th when they play host to Butler Community College for a four-game set. Saturday's doubleheader will start at 1 p.m. against the 9-9 Grizzlies.
