DC3 Reverts To Old Ways In 14-4 Loss At Lamar

Box Score LAMAR, Colo. - After taking a 3-2 lead into the bottom of the second, the Dodge City Community College baseball team would be outscored 12-1 to suffer a 14-4 setback to Lamar Community College in non-conference action in Lamar, Colorado on Wednesday, March 22nd.

DC3 is now 17-8 overall while the Lopes improved to 23-7 while winning their sixth straight game.

A leadoff single by Cade Engle and Brayden cook would start things off for the Conquistadors in the top of the first before a fielder's choice and Talon Schaller RBI double gave Dodge City a 1-0 lead. LCC would respond with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first, utilizing four singles and a fielder's choice to take a 2-1 lead after one. A Cole Bergdall one-out two-run home run allowed Dodge City to re-take the lead at 3-2, but the lead would be short lived as Lamar would once again respond by scoring three runs of their own. the DC3 bats would go silent in the third and fourth innings while Lamar would put up a single run in the bottom of the third before tacking on three in the fourth to take a 9-3 lead after four innings of play and Dodge City in need of a rally. A Jake Pederson solo-home run would be all that the Conquistadors could muster in the top of the fifth, as the Lopes would be held to their only scoreless frame of the game in the bottom of the fifth by pitcher Gavin Gifford

Any potential spark created by the scoreless defensive inning for DC3 would quickly be shut down as Dodge City would be held hitless in the final four innings of play, managing just three base runners down the stretch. Lamar would add on three insurance runs in the sixth before plating two in the bottom of the eighth take the single game by a 10-run margin.

Bergdall collected one hit in his four at-bats while driving in two runs as Schaller and Pederson drove in the other two Conquistador runs with a hit each. Engle and Cook collected the other DC3 hits.

Dodge City will utilize their off-weekend from the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference by playing host to Colorado Northwestern Community College for a four-game set starting on Friday at 3 p.m. at Cavalier Field. The Spartans are 9-17 overall heading into this weekend's series. Friday will also mark the first-ever meeting between the two squads.
