Men Break Century Mark vs. Bethany JV, 118-66

Box Score DODGE CITY, Kan. - For the first time this season, the Conquistador men's basketball team broke the century mark, as they outplayed the Swedes from the opening tip, winning, 118-66 on Monday night inside the Student Activity Center.

Scoring 59 points in both the first and second half, the Conqs were led offensively by seven players who scored in double figures, while 12 of the 13 players that played scored at least two points. 

Jyrus Freels was able to collected a game-high 20 points, while Hunter Davis collected his first double-double of the year, grabbing 10 rebounds and adding 10 points. After a 20 point outing last game, Tajae Anderson stayed hot, adding 18 points while teammates Bruce Hodges and Dayton McGroarty scored 16 and 14 points respectively. 

For the second time this year, the Conqs never trailed throughout the game, as they jumped out to a 14-7 lead, just five minutes into the game. By the midway point of the first half, Dodge City had extended their lead to 10 points on back-to-back layups from Jyrus Freels. After the Swedes cut the lead to nine on a free throw, the Conqs then went on a 12-2 run to quickly push the lead to 19 points, 41-22. By the end of the first half, Dodge City pushed their lead to 59-31, scoring the final six points, with Dayton McGroarty adding an exclamation with a steal followed by a huge dunk to end the first half.

With the game already out of reach, the Conqs did not let up for the second half, quickly extending their lead to 39 points with 14 minutes to play in the game. After two free throws from Anderson, a layup by McGroarty put the Conqs up by 50, 100-50. Dodge City was not done there, as both teams trades baskets for the remainder of the game, giving Dodge City a 118-66 win.

Dodge City is now 2-1 on the year and will be in action again on Saturday as they travel to Cloud County Community College, beginning KJCCC play at 8 p.m.
