Dodge City men's basketball finished the season by squeaking out a win on the road over Seward County 75-74, getting the game-winning bucket with 15 seconds remaining. The performance of
Derrick Rivers helped the Conquistadors earn the win, earning him KJCCC Division I Player of the Week honors.
The weekly award is the third for Rivers this season and the sixth time a Conq has picked up the honors this season.
Rivers dropped 25 points on 8-16 shooting in the win over Seward County, going 2-4 from three-point range and 7-8 from the free throw line. He filled out the stat sheet with seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
The sophomore leads the Conqs in scoring at 20.7 points per game on 39.1% shooting and shoots 88.6% from the free-throw line. He fills the stat sheet up with 4.5 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 1.7 steals per game. He leads the KJCCC in total points scored (621), while ranking second in PPG, free throw percentage, free throws made, and field goals made. His 202 free throws made this season are a single-season school record, and he became only the fourth men's basketball player in school history to score 1,000 career points.
The Conqs host Cowley in the Region 6 quarterfinals to open postseason play on Tuesday, March 10th at 7:30pm.
