Box Score DODGE CITY, Kan. - Coming off back-to-back losses, the Dodge City volleyball team defeated Seminole State College in three sets by scores of 25-18, 25-16 and 25-20. The Conqs then went on to sweep Sterling College's JV squad in a best-of-three match, by scores of 25-11 and 25-20.
The Conqs fell behind early in the first set, 10-5. The Conqs then went on a 7-0 run capped off by a kill by
Raquel Valdez and an attacking error by Seminole State to give Dodge City a 12-10 lead. After grabbing the lead, the Conqs never gave it up again for the remainder of the set, eventually extending the lead to 21-15 forcing Seminole to call their second timeout. An attacking error by the Trojans ended set one, giving Dodge City a 25-18 win.
In set two, the Conqs trailed for just one point at 7-6, but quickly grabbed the lead back and eventually pushed their lead to 21-14, forcing the Trojans to call their first timeout. Coming out of the timeout, one kill and three attacking errors ended the set, giving Dodge City a 25-16 win in set two.
Again in set three, the Conqs fell behind, forced to call a timeout after back-to-back attacking errors, trailing 13-8. Coming out of the timeout, The Conqs were able to cut the lead to one on three errors by Seminole State and a service ace by
Alex Stecklein. Dodge City was able to take a 15-14 lead and never looked back, ending the match on two errors by the Trojans and a kill from
Jaylen Pegues.
In game two against Sterling College JV, the Conquistadors led from the beginning of set one and was in control for the entire set. Sterling called their first timeout of the set when the Conqs collected kills from
Kate Warren and
Rachel Slattery to extend the lead to 15-5. A service error by Sterling ended the set, giving Dodge City a 25-11 win.
Looking for the sweep of the entire day, the Conqs fell behind in set two, 10-5. Dodge City was able to get things figured out and went on a 7-2 run to tie the game at 12. Dodge City grabbed the lead on an attacking error from Sterling and quickly pushed the lead to 21-14, forcing Sterling to call a timeout. A kill and a service ace from Pegues ended the set and gave Dodge City a 2-0 win over Sterling College JV.
The Conqs are now 17-9 on the year and will be in action again on Monday, Oct. 9, at home against Seward County at 6:30 p.m.
