Box Score 2 LAKEWOOD, Colo. - After coming out flat in a 3-0 loss against Lamar, the Dodge City Community College volleyball team beat host Colorado Christian JV in four sets to split a pair of matches on day one of the Colorado Christian JV tournament in Lakewood, Colorado on Friday, September 23rd.
DC3 is now 11-8 on the year heading into a pair of matches tomorrow to finish out the CCU JV Invite.
In the first match against Lamar, Dodge City could not get anything going, dropping the match by scores of 20-25, 10-25, 26-28. Sophomore
Daisy Cheek would be one of few bright spots in the loss, leading the Conquistadors with 12 assists.
Mariah Watkins had eight kills and one solo block while
Tenille Tholen had nine digs and one service ace.
Needing a win to end the night on a positive note, DC3 jumped all over Colorado Christian JV in the first set to take the set by a score of 25-11. In a tightly contested second set, Dodge City would drop a close one by a score of 26-28 before rebounding for a 25-17 set three win. In set number four, the Conquistadors closed out the match with a 25-21 record the victory.
Raquel Valdez had 13 kills and two solo blocks in the victory while
Sada Smith had 10 kills and 12 digs to finish with a double-double. Tholen picked up where she left off against Lamar, recording 22 digs while
Briana Brown had a monster match with 17 assists, 10 digs, and two service aces. Cheek would add 16 assists of her own to go along with two service aces.
DC3 finishes up pool play tomorrow morning with an 8 a.m. (MT) match against the Adams State University JV before playing at either 2 or p.m. (MT) against an opponent to be announced following pool play.
