Box Score GREAT BEND, Kan. - With only three available substitutes, the Dodge City Community College women's soccer team saw a 2-1 lead with 21:50 left in regulation disappear as Barton scored two goals in the final 15 minutes to hand the Conquistadors a 3-2 defeat in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference action on Wednesday,September 14th.
DC3 is now 2-3 overall and 1-2 in the KJCCC while the Cougars improved to 2-2-1 and 1-1 in the league.
Barton would open the scoring up in the ninth minute when Amber Miller would score her first collegiate goal after finding the far post off a pass from Analia Torres. DC3 would show they were ready for play though by coming back with an equalizer just two minutes later when
Siobhan Longmore would send a free kick into the box that
Dominique Arzaga would send into the back of the net following a scramble for the ball. The score would remain tied a one heading into halftime with Barton outshooting the Conquistadors 9-2.
In the second half, sophomore
Cynthia Rodela would be denied by Cougar goalie Alexandra Capalbo before getting a second shot that she would send home to put DC3 up 2-1. Pressing for a goal, Barton would find one with 15:25 left to tie the score at two before Dodge City would have a player sent off for a red card giving the Cougars a one woman advantage for the final 12:53.
Just under three minutes later, Barton's Maddison Schofield launched a missle from 18 yards out right at Conquistador goalie
Emily Goldman who would make the initial save, but the deflection would go off the near post and into the net to give Barton a 3-2 lead. DC3's last chance at an equalizer would be waved off due to an offsides after what appeared to be Rodela's second goal of the game, as the Conqs would not get another shot to tie the game.
Dodge City's next chance to improve to .500 on the season will be on Saturday, September 17th when they travel to Goodland, Kansas to take on Northwest Kansas Tech in a 2 p.m. CT match. The Mavericks are 0-2-1 this season after losing 7-0 to Hesston last week. Saturday's game will mark the first game for NW Kansas Tech in 11 days.
