SOFTBALL NOTES: DC3 faces Seward in Region VI Tournament opener

DODGE CITY, Kan. -- Though it has been pushed back due to anticipated inclement weather, the Dodge City Community College softball team is set to begin Region VI Tournament play against Seward County 1 p.m. Tuesday in El Dorado, Kansas.
 

CONQS VS. SAINTS

- Dodge City, the fourth seed, went 3-1 against Seward, the fifth seed, this season - winning both games at Seward (5-4 and 10-1) on March 5 while splitting with the Saints at home (winning 5-3 and losing 15-7) on April 2.

- The winner of this game will take on top-seeded Butler 1 p.m. Wednesday (COMPLETE BRACKET).

Individual Stats

- The Conqs had won five in a row before falling to KJCCC champ and sixth-ranked Butler 8-0 and 10-0 April 25 in El Dorado, a doubleheader that had to be moved away from Dodge City after it was originally postponed due to rain and scheduling conflicts didn't allow for umpires to make the trip to Dodge City.

- Kaylie Schoendaller in the four games against Seward this season is 7-for-12 (.583) with three doubles, two runs and four RBI. On the season Schoendaller is hitting .308 with four home runs (second on team), 24 RBI (second) and eight doubles (second).

- Kim Herron, the Conqs' likely starting pitcher against Seward, is 2-0 against the Saints this season with a 2.27 ERA, 10 hits allowed, four strikeouts and one walk in 12.1 innings. On the season, Herron is 14-12 with a 3.19 ERA and 15 complete games in 20 starts. She's tied for 10th on the DC3 single-season wins list with her 14 victories.

- Candace Bollig leads the Conqs at the plate in average (.379), on-base percentage (.497), slugging (.767), home runs (9), RBI (34), doubles (12), runs (40), hits (44) and stolen bases (11). Her 40 runs are 10th on the DC3 single-season all-time list while her nine homers are tied for ninth.


SEWARD COUNTY SAINTS (26-30)

Individual Stats

- The Saints are coming off a pair of wins against Colby, the No. 3 seed in the region, 6-5 and 7-6 on April 25 to claim the fifth seed ahead of Pratt.

- Seward's Kelly Kearney has started two games and appeared in relief in another against the Conqs this season and is 0-2 with 4.90 ERA with 11 hits allowed, 10 walks and two strikeouts in 10 innings. On the season Kearney is 14-12 with a save, 17 complete games and a 4.82 ERA - all tops on the team. She also leads Seward with 162.2 innings.

- Seward sophomore Jaidyn Mawhinney is 11-12 in the circle with 15 complete games and a 6.24 ERA in 147 innings.


- Brittany Corrales and Kristyna Garcia are both hitting above .400 for Seward with Corrales hitting .405 with six home runs and 49 RBI and Garcia hitting .403 with five homers and 49 RBI. Against DC3 this season, however, the duo is batting .208 (5-for-24).

- Kennedy Brunson is the team's speedster with 30 stolen bases to go along with a .390 average while Venice Batts is Seward's top power threat with 10 homers to go along with a .333 average and 12 doubles.
